Bitcoin: the 3D trend label drops to sideways as the 20-period average climbs through price

Aug 16, 2026 · BTC

Bitcoin's 3D trend label has dropped from up to sideways, and the snapshot diff shows why: the 20-period EMA rose 1.35% over the week while price rose 0.58%, so the average climbed through price from below. Price at 64,138.93 now sits 0.30% under that EMA and 0.84% over the SMA, and Bitcoin carries the two least directional efficiency-ratio readings in our nine-cell coverage — 0.0358 on the 3D and 0.0440 on the weekly. The weekly and monthly both stay classified down with bearish momentum.

What changed since last week's read

Last week's Bitcoin read opened on a 3D trend that had just flipped up on an efficiency ratio of 0.029 — directional in label, almost motionless in travel. That label has not survived the week. The 3D now reads sideways / weak, and the mechanism is visible in the two stored snapshots: price rose 0.58% (63,766.01 to 64,138.93) while the 3D 20-period EMA rose 1.35% (63,472.23 to 64,331.78). The average climbed through price from below rather than price falling away from it. Momentum on that timeframe moved from bearish to neutral as RSI ticked 44.34 to 45.42.

The knock-on effect is the multi-timeframe label. Bitcoin was conflicting last week; with the 3D no longer pointing anywhere, it now reads mixed — the only one of the three assets whose alignment label moved at all this week, and the only sideways reading anywhere in the nine timeframe cells our scan covers.

Elsewhere the ledger is quiet, and that is worth stating plainly rather than padding: the weekly 60,564.56 shelf still carries its six touches, the weekly ceiling at 66,151.38 still carries three, and the monthly support at 60,000.00 and resistance at 71,388.50 are unchanged. The 3D support shelf firmed slightly — 62,510.28 on a single touch last week has re-resolved to 62,392.64 on two.

The read across timeframes

Bitcoin is straddling its own 3D averages. Price at 64,138.93 sits 0.30% below the 20-period EMA (64,331.78) and 0.84% above the 20-period SMA (63,606.25). Being caught between the two is the arithmetic definition of the sideways / weak label the engine assigned, not a separate observation.

The efficiency ratio makes the same point more sharply. Bitcoin now holds the two least directional readings in the entire nine-cell set: 0.0358 on the 3D and 0.0440 on the weekly. The next-lowest reading anywhere is Solana's 3D at 0.0882 — twice Bitcoin's weekly. The weekly figure is the one that moved: 0.370 last week to 0.044 now, and the weekly trend-strength label was downgraded from moderate to weak alongside it. The weekly trend is still classified down with bearish momentum, but it is travelling a much smaller fraction of its own path to get there.

The monthly is where the structure is unambiguous and unchanged: down, strong, efficiency ratio 0.6043, RSI 43.66, and the monthly 20-period EMA at 82,725.15 standing 28.98% above price. Nothing in this week's numbers touched that reading.

Levels and zones

The nearest 3D band is unusually tight relative to Bitcoin's own bar sizes. Support at 62,392.64 (two touches) and resistance at 64,700.00 (one touch) enclose 2,307.36 points, while the 3D ATR is 2,823.32 — the entire band is about 82% of a single average 3D bar's range. That was true last week on different numbers and is true again now. Price is 0.87% under the upper edge.

Wider out, the weekly floor at 60,564.56 with six touches remains the most-tested level anywhere in the Bitcoin snapshot; price sits 5.90% above it. The weekly ceiling at 66,151.38 (three touches) is 3.14% overhead.

One monthly zone is worth naming. An unmitigated bear order block spans 65,712.12 to 79,485.66, formed four bars ago, and price is currently 2.45% below its lower edge. Zones like this mark where prior selling concentrated; conventionally, traders watch such areas for a reaction rather than treating them as a destination. The monthly bull zone at 107,350.10 to 124,474.00 has aged twelve bars and sits far above current trade.

MACD is consistent with the split picture and unchanged in character from last week: the line is above its signal on both the 3D (histogram +535.45) and the weekly (+491.60), and well below it on the monthly (-5,614.87) — the widest negative histogram in the whole set.
